Humans are not designed to do life alone. Positive relationships help people feel valued, supported, and understood. In the workplace, connection also supports trust, communication, and safety.

When people feel connected, they are more likely to speak up, ask for help, share concerns, and support others.

Winter can make connection harder. People may spend more time indoors, cancel social plans, work remotely, or withdraw when they are tired or under pressure. That is why simple, intentional connection matters.

Workplaces can support social wellbeing through:

  • Regular team check-ins.
  • Meaningful one-to-one conversations.
  • Peer support or mentoring.
  • Shared learning opportunities.
  • Team kai or informal gatherings.
  • Community or volunteering initiatives.

Connection does not need to be complicated. A genuine “How are you going?” can open the door to support.
